Yesterday I went up for an audition at the BBC for the part of a rather ‘nasty nurse’. This ‘nurse’ reminded me of the time I spent at Guy’s and St Thomas’ hospital in South London when I broke my ankle last year. The nursing care I received there was less than compassionate in fact it was more like ‘Cell Block H’ and they certainly lived up to the Ward name ‘Nightingale Ward’ (Florence Nightingale was supposed to be less than compassionate herself at times). As you can imagine, I got out as quickly as I could .. i was one of the lucky ones.
In fact it saddened me that the National Health system had fallen into such disarray, where have all the good nurses gone? All I saw was discontent, laziness, dissent and bickering amongst staff - somehow a guiding hand was needed, maybe it would be a good idea to re-assess bringing Matrons back on wards?
