I am currently watching a new TV series here in the US called ‘Cane’. It is about a Cuban Family who flee to the states and set up a sugar plantation in Florida. It is a big Famiy Saga. The conflict lies with their neighbours who are redneck corporate rivals - who will stop at nothing including murder to take over their plantation. I am really enjoying it .. however, so far the ratings for this show are paltry and I’ve been told that shows here have got axed after just three episodes if the audience numbers are not high enough. I know that commercial TV has no choice in this matter, as high ratings means more advertising revenue and therefore a successful TV station. But often a drama needs at least one series for the viewers to become attached to it and it’s characters. I hope the figures improve because I feel ‘Cane’ has loads of potential .. for me it has a similarity to ‘The Sopranos’ only Cuban style.
