Disillusioned …. me??

Yesterday I had an advert audition.  As usual I always feel quite optimistic before I go to the audition as you ‘just never know’ if it could be YOU that is right this time.  However, going in with a group of people is never very satisfying, especially other actors you do not know.  There was no script just a Director who thought it was witty that trained actors were asked to do such ’silly’ things for advert auditions!  The advert ‘Friends Re-united’ wanted three friends to be stuck together like glue, stuck together doing ordinary things like walking down the road, travelling on the underground train, on the phone etc etc …. I came out feeling quite deflated … yet again the same thought flashed into my mind … why do I put myself through it, I can only liken it to buying a ‘lottery’ ticket … you have an absolutely minimal chance of winning but it’s addictive.

I have just read an article in the Telegraph  detailing a ‘recommendation’ to cut ‘in-patient’ beds for cancer patients.   As my husband is currently undergoing chemotherapy treatment I am well aware of ‘the cost of the chemo’ and the care needed to administer it.  As more and more people are diagnosed with this terrible disease that knows no age, class, race or gender boundaries, of course, the NHS wants to CUT costs involved with the treatment of it.  Of course there is nothing wrong with making a service more efficient and effective - treatment in local clinics may be the answer as suggested in the recommendation - but often this fluff is just a smokescreen for ‘CUTs’ that actually make the service worse not better!
