The continual reports of ‘knife crime’ on a daily basis is extremely alarming.  Of course, knife crime is nothing new, when I was a teenager there were fights between rival gangs and knives were involved then.  However, the spate of ‘gang’ related killings amongst younger teens who have no fear of the consequences - in fact are used to a legal system which does not know what to do with them is worrying.  Surely the problem is not the weapon but the fact that these teens seem to think that it is fun to be violent and attack and kill people in the first place for merely a ‘dirty look’!  Will community service help?  I don’t think so.  Will jail time help if people are merely caught with a knife - not sure about that one either.  Maybe it’s too late to save these current gangs of kids that respect violence over anything else but lets learn from them and re-think what we have lost in our society that is breeding violent angry kids.
